SAT/SUN GLIDING FOR 134(BEDFORD) SQN ATC

Postby ls7 » Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:37 am

No 134 (Bedford) Sqn ATC would like us to provide trial flights for their cadets on Saturdays/Sundays. This is a private initiative between us and the sqn, and not part of any formal GSA/ATC flying scheme. In setting up this arrangement, I have been keen not to disadvantage Club members, nor to make the charges unaffordable for the cadets. However, this does provide a significant opportunity for fund raising, and for introducing young people to gliding. I hope, therefore, that you will find the following arrangements acceptable:

· No more then 4 cadets will attend on any Sat/Sun. They will initially be offered 2 flights each but may do more if the flying programme allows.
· The total number of cadets to fly is around 30, together with some of their instructors.
· Cadets will be supervised by an adult appointed by the sqn.
· Because a responsible person appointed by the ATC will closely supervise the cadets, there is no requirement for Club members to be CRB checked.
· We will provide the sqn with membership forms for parents to sign as authorising the activity - no form, no fly!
· Cadets, and adults representing the sqn, will be charged £10 for their first winch launch, and club rates thereafter.
· The supervising adult will pay for all the flying with a single cheque.
· The intention is to start ATC flying in early Apr 11.
· Although CRB checks are not required, we have a common-sense duty of care towards the cadets. Therefore, they are not permitted to drive vehicles or operate machinery. They may, if required, use the Clubhouse but they are not permitted into any of the sleeping accommodation.
· At the risk of being over-PC, we should also try to use moderate language when cadets and visitors are around!

If you have any concerns or suggestions, please give me a call.”

Thanks,

Chris.
