Stupid question....... (before all you ex-servicemen give me some 'cause its the RAF' answer)

How does runways falling apart prevent us from winch launching off the grass with the winch made of the special less lethal when it falls on your head or the power lines rope?

Apparently the work is also on the south taxiway, and the workmen have an aversion to anything being dropped on them. We broke four weak links on Sunday, so I would guess that with double the targets to hit, the chances of us throwing something their way is quite large!

Dunno if we could just operate the motorglider off the grass though... Guess we'd have to see where the chaps are working.

[Not an official answer, but my interpretation of the available info!]

I am speaking with wittering to see exactly where they will be working with a view to use the MG off of the grass. As Peter has said, they need to do work on both the southern taxiway as well as the main runway, so I hope to get some dispensation for the MG use - will keep you posted

To use the MG only (for say field landing check...) surely we just need a small section of either the northern, southern, main or grass to opperate from. It is highly unlikely that the MoD/RAF have employed enough contractors and/or leased enough machines to have all of these areas seconded for 4 days!

Imagine approaching over the A1 in the MG to land on the piano keys........... I can hear the radio reports of a light aircraft landing on the A1 already! LOL
