Morning all.

Just a quick query, I've recently been posted into Wittering (5001 Sqn) and had the pleasure of seeing one of the gliders being towed up at the weekend. Do you require PPL holders for the aerotows or is it done privately? I ask as I recently qualified as a PPL(A) and if the oppotunity arises would like to be able to put it to good use other than satisfying the list of family and friends who all want a flight. I also realise that Im probably swearing at a lot of people admitting that I like to have an engine in my aircraft.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Nice to see you like the aerotows. The rules for doing the tows are:

1. you have to have a PPL or in our case a SLMG PPL
2. you have to be passed out as a tug driver
3. the most important one, you have to be a member of the club and a glider pilot. This is mainly so that you can appriciate what is needed from the tow and it also gives incentive to anyone who would like to become a tug pilot to become a member.

If you would like to become a member, or at least give it a go, why dont you come down at the weekend and we can try to prove to you that gliding is more fun that power flying (and you can go further)

Looking forward to seeing you. If you want to talk about it, please give me a call
