The BGA has recently published its summary of Glider Accidents in 2011, and may be downloaded from

http://www.gliding.co.uk/bgainfo/docume ... 011web.pdf

There is some good news to report (there were no fatal accidents in 2011 and no serious injury accidents from winch launches or instructing flights) but no room for complacency - we all need to maintain a safety conscious attitude to the sport. To add context to this report, from 2008-2011 there were 5 fatal gliding accidents compared with a prior steady 4-year total of about 15. Of the 22 fatal or serious injury gliding accidents from 2008-2011, 10 were associated with field landings. Field landing accidents with personal injury are of increasing concern so field landing training needs to be high on the agenda of all who wish to fly cross-country this year and into the future.
